Interact Mayatan: the club's young people

The Interact club of Mayatan Bilingual School in Copán Ruinas, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Copán Ruinas. Young people ages 12 to 18 who learn to lead by serving their community.

The Rotary family

Three clubs, three ages, one idea

Rotary doesn't start at thirty. There is a club for every age, and each one is mentored by the one before it.

  • Ages 18 to 30

    Rotaract

Clubs for young adults and university students who want to keep serving after Interact. Copán Ruinas does not yet have a chartered Rotaract club: the club is working to form one. If you are between 18 and 30 and interested, sign up on the Rotaract page.

  • Adults

    Rotary

The Rotary Club of Copán Ruinas, club No. 65655 of District 4250, sponsors Interact Mayatan and mentors its members. How to join the club.

The Interact club

What Interact Mayatan does

Interact Mayatan brings together students of Mayatan Bilingual School, a nonprofit school in Copán Ruinas. Like every Interact club, it chooses and runs its own projects, with the Rotary Club of Copán Ruinas as sponsor and mentor.

  • Service

    Its own projects

Interact members identify a need, plan, and carry it out. The club's projects will be published here as the club documents them. Several Mayatan School students also take part in Days for Girls in Honduras, an independent organization.

  • Leadership

    Learning by leading

An Interact club has its own board, meetings, and budget. Young people learn to organize, speak in public, and account for what they do, with adult Rotarians who accompany without taking over.

  • International understanding

    Part of a global network

Interact exists in more than a hundred countries. A project with an international organization, like Days for Girls, is local service and a window on the world at the same time.

Communities

Days for Girls in Honduras

So that no girl in Copán misses school because of her period: menstrual health workshops and washable kits in the villages of the municipality, run by young people from Copán Ruinas.

How to join

For students, families, and teachers

If you are between 12 and 18 and study in Copán Ruinas, ask about Interact at your school or write to us: the club will put you in touch with Interact Mayatan. No experience needed; what it takes is wanting to do something for your community.

If you are a parent or a teacher, Interact needs adults who show up: a place to meet, a ride to a delivery, an afternoon of sewing. If you are between 18 and 30 and past Interact age, write to us too: that is Rotaract's age, and the club is forming one.
