Copán, beyond the Jornada

Leave a spare day: Copán Ruinas will fill it

Nobody travels all the way to Copán Ruinas to see only a conference hall. A kilometre from the venue stands the finest-carved Maya city known, and around it there are macaws, hot springs and coffee farms.

  • The archaeological park

A World Heritage Site since 1980. Stelae bearing the portraits of sixteen kings, and the Hieroglyphic Stairway — the longest Maya text in existence.

    Archaeological park admission: US$ 20.

  • Macaw Mountain

The reserve that rescues scarlet macaws, Honduras’s national bird. The ones flying over the Great Plaza came from here.

  • Luna Jaguar hot springs

A dozen pools at different temperatures in the mountain forest, an hour from town. Bring a swimsuit.

  • High-altitude coffee

Copán is coffee country: farms you can tour in a morning, with a tasting at the end.

170 km from San Pedro Sula, 3–4 hours by road.

Your questions answered

Frequently asked questions

How do I register for the Jornada?
All in the registration section on this page, in under five minutes: your details, how many people are coming, and how you pay — by transfer to the club's account or in person, in cash or by card, with the committee. The form shows you today's total. You get an acknowledgement right away and the confirmation by WhatsApp and email once the payment is checked.
How much does registration cost?
It depends on the day you register: there are three price windows, and the earlier you register, the less it costs. All three appear with their dates and amounts in the registration section, with the current one highlighted.
Which account do I transfer to?
The club receives registrations in a single account, at Banco de Occidente. The number appears in the form when you choose “transfer”, next to today's total for the number of people coming. Transfer the exact total and put your full name in the description.
What is the "No. Ref Bancaria" you ask for?
It's the transfer reference number: the 7 digits printed on the receipt your bank gives you. It's the only thing that lets us match your transfer to your registration, so copy it exactly, with no spaces or dashes. Also put your full name in the transfer description, so the treasurer can find it even if the number is mistyped.
Can I register before transferring?
Yes. In the form choose “I'll transfer in the next few days” and we hold your place and today's fee for five business days. When you make the transfer, reply to the acknowledgement email with your reference number and we confirm it. You can also pay in person, in cash or by card, with the club committee.
When is the LVII Jornada Morazánica?
Friday, September 24 to Sunday, September 26, 2027, in Copán Ruinas, Honduras. The dates are confirmed by the organizing committee. What comes later is the detailed program: schedules, speakers, and the venue for each activity.
What does the registration fee cover?
The registration reception with food and drinks, the Friday welcome cocktail at 7:00 p.m., the Saturday conference from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. including coffee break and lunch, the Saturday gala dinner at 7:00 p.m., and the Sunday farewell brunch from 8:00 a.m. Accommodation is NOT included: each booking is made directly with the hotel. The full detail is in the registration section.
Can I register if I am not a Rotarian?
Registration for the LVII Jornada Morazánica is for members of a Rotary club: it is a District 4250 gathering and the program is built around that. If you are not a Rotarian and would like to accompany someone who is, or you are interested in the club, write to jornadamorazanica@rotarycopan.com and we will tell you what is possible in your case.
Where can I stay?
Copán Ruinas has hotels and hostels a few minutes' walk from the center. We'll publish special Jornada rates in the accommodation section as soon as the committee confirms them. Accommodation is not included in the registration fee.
What else can I do in Copán Ruinas besides the Jornada?
The Copán archaeological park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is a kilometre from the town centre, and around it there are museums, hot springs, coffee farms and a macaw reserve. We keep a full visitor guide with fees, hours, how to get here and one- to three-day itineraries. Leave a free day before or after the Jornada.
What activities are there at the Jornada?
Inspired by Francisco Morazán and his ideals of Central American unity, the Jornada is held each year before the Feriado Morazánico. The program includes keynote talks, ten-minute lightning talks, the national project showcase, and social activities in the heart of Copán Ruinas. See the program above.
What is the Feriado Morazánico and how does it relate to the Jornada?
The Feriado Morazánico is a Honduran holiday celebrating the legacy of Francisco Morazán, the Central American leader who championed unity, liberalism, and regional integration. The Jornada Morazánica is named in his honor and is held annually in the weeks before the holiday, bringing together Rotarians from across Honduras to learn, grow, and celebrate the values Morazán stood for.
What are the sponsorship tiers?
We offer several sponsorship tiers to support the Jornada. The tiers, and what each includes, are on our sponsorship page.
