Rural schools in Copán: what changes when the investment arrives

The national Rotary gathering comes to Copán Ruinas in September 2027. What the Jornada Morazánica is, why the club can host it, and how to register your interest.
In September 2027, Copán Ruinas will host the LVII Jornada Morazánica, the regional Rotary gathering that brings together clubs from across the area each year. It’s the biggest event the club has taken on, and the whole town is part of it.
Dates confirmed, registration open. The organizing committee has confirmed the dates: September 24–26, 2027. Registration is paid by bank transfer to Banco de Occidente, and the fee depends on the day you register. Current fees and account details are on the Jornada page. What is still unconfirmed is the detailed program: schedules, speakers, and the venue for each activity.
The Jornada Morazánica is named after Francisco Morazán (1792–1842), the Central American statesman who devoted his life to regional unity, liberal reform, and the integration of the region’s peoples. The gathering was born inspired by those ideals.
It’s the traditional gathering of Rotary in Honduras, with more than half a century of editions — hence the Roman numeral LVII — hosted by a different club each year. It takes place the weekend before the Feriado Morazánico, and Rotarians from across the country come together to learn, show what they’ve accomplished, and get to know each other.
The planned program for Copán Ruinas includes:
The project exhibition is, for many clubs, the most useful part: it’s where a small club discovers that another small club already solved the problem it’s facing — and how much it cost.
For two reasons, and neither one is the scenery.
The first is that it has done this before. In September 2019, the club hosted the annual District 4250 conference, with delegations from Honduras, Guatemala, and Belize, and visitors from partner clubs in the United States. That edition set the precedent that a small club can welcome the entire district and handle the logistics without a hitch.
The second is the town itself. Copán Ruinas has what a three-day gathering needs: hotels accustomed to international visitors, distances you can walk, and a UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site one kilometer from the central park. For many Rotarians in the region, it’s also the trip they’ve been meaning to make.
The LVII Jornada is dedicated to two founding members whose names are behind much of what Rotary has accomplished in this area. Their biographies will be published once each of them has personally reviewed and approved them — it’s a living tribute, and it will be done the right way, with their agreement.
Quite a lot, and we say so openly since it’s still more than a year away:
All of this will be published on the Jornada page as it’s confirmed.
There’s an interest registration open now. It doesn’t commit you to anything and doesn’t ask about money — it simply helps the committee know how many people they’re reaching, and lets us notify you as soon as the program, hotels, and firm dates are set.
